PDI official has a heart attack
MALANG, East Java: A top official of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) had a heart attack amid the tense election of a new provincial party chapter on Tuesday.
Fatimah Ahmad, a deputy chairperson of PDI central executive board, was rushed to the Army Hospital where she underwent intensive medical care yesterday.
PDI chapter secretary, Sudaryanto, said the heart attack came when Fatimah was upset that the election ended in outrage as the ballots cast outnumbered the eligible voters.
Soetjipto won the disputed election by 180 votes over his lone contender Latief Pudjosakti, who obtained 153 votes.
Antara reported that congress participants will consult the central board of executives to decide whether or not to call for another election. (pan)
