PDI chief expected today

SURABAYA: Megawati Soekarnoputri, chairperson of the
Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI), is expected to install the new
executive board of the party's East Java chapter today.

The inauguration will be held today irrespective of whether or
not the East Java provincial administration endorses it or not,
local party officials said, adding that they have sent out more
than 2,000 invitations for the ceremony.

The provincial administration has given its support to a rival
board led by Latief Pudjosakti who is staking his claim as the
rightful leader of the party in East Java.

Megawati has given her support to Soetjipto to head the
regional board. (emb)
