PDAM Pontianak prepares 30 per cent tariff discount for affected customers
Pontianak (ANTARA) - The Tirta Khatulistiwa Regional Water Company (PDAM) in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, is providing a 30 per cent water tariff discount for two months to household customers as a form of assistance in facing the raw water crisis caused by the dry season and rising salinity levels.
“Regarding the discount, we are currently reviewing it, which will certainly last for several months. Whether usage in September will be paid in October, we will assess; God willing, we will realise this for one or two months,” said the President Director of Perumda Air Minum Tirta Khatulistiwa Pontianak, Abdullah, in Pontianak on Wednesday.
Abdullah stated that the company is committed to providing attention to customers affected by raw water conditions and service quality during the dry season.
He explained that the limited supply of raw water from the Kapuas River has also affected service delivery, prompting the company to request support from the central and provincial governments to ensure the availability of raw water, as it is one of the nation’s strategic rivers.
“First, we apologise for the service, especially regarding quality, but that is indeed the raw water availability provided by us, from PDAM,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Pontianak, Edi Rusdi Kamtono, stated that the discount policy will be provided to household customers for two months starting from September 2026.
“We are providing this to help lighten the burden on the community affected by the decline in raw water quality due to the drought and seawater intrusion,” he said.
In addition to providing tariff discounts, the Pontianak City Government is distributing clean water to sub-districts, districts, and several public points by requesting each sub-district and district to prepare storage tanks with capacities of 4,000 to 5,000 litres, including involving mosques that have storage tanks as distribution locations.
“The fresh water supply is relatively adequate after the operation of IPA 3 at the Imam Bonjol Booster began, with a production of approximately 1,000 cubic metres of fresh water per day distributed to 29 sub-districts and several public locations, while the public is still requested to boil water before consumption,” he added.
