PCCW to invest US$100m in KL

HONG KONG (Dow Jones): Pacific Century Cyberworks Ltd. or
PCCW, said Tuesday it will spend US$100 million in Malaysia over
the next five years to provide an array of Internet access
services and a full-service data center.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has
granted the Hong Kong company an applications service provider
class license, said PCCW in an announcement.

"Our initiative in Malaysia also paves the way for regional
expansion under our joint venture with Australia's Telstra
Corp.," said Keith Harrison, PCCW's managing director for global
communication services.

Both companies will combine resources to provide Internet
"backbone" and data centers in Singapore, Thailand, the
Philippines, Korea, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam and India.

PCCW said this was the first applications service provider
license awarded by the Malaysian government to a 100 percent
foreign-owned company.

PCCW is one of the companies involved in the Multimedia Super
Corridor project undertaken by the Malaysian government to
bolster telecommunications technology in Malaysia.
