The Central Board of the Indonesian Volleyball Federation (PP PBVSI) is still awaiting a policy decision from the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) regarding the participation of the men’s and women’s national volleyball teams in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, scheduled for September.

The General Chairman of PP PBVSI, Imam Sudjarwo, stated that the sports federation has taken initial steps by submitting a long list of players for the formation of the national teams. However, the final decision regarding the team’s deployment is pending guidance from the Indonesian NOC, due to various considerations including budgetary constraints.

“We are aware of the budget limitations, so whether this involves efficiency or other measures, we certainly need certainty. Nevertheless, we have already submitted the long list of player names for both the men’s and women’s national teams,” he said at the General Police Kunarto Volleyball Training Centre in Sentul, West Java, on Tuesday.

Imam explained that PBVSI would not face significant obstacles if the national volleyball teams are ultimately sent to the 2026 Asian Games. This is because the projected players already have competition schedules and development programmes in place leading up to Asia’s largest multi-sport event.

“We simply need to call up the players on the long list, and PBVSI will not find it difficult to prepare them, as the players are already active in various competitions,” he added.

Imam expressed hope that Indonesia’s men’s and women’s national teams can participate in the prestigious sporting event. However, the organisation understands that the final decision rests with the relevant authorities, who must consider the national financial situation and the potential limitation of the number of sports disciplines being sent.

Meanwhile, PP PBVSI is sending the Indonesian women’s national volleyball team to compete in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Volleyball Cup 2026, held at the Candon City Arena, Philippines, from 6–14 June. The national team is targeting at least a top-four finish in the prestigious tournament.
