PBNU to Soon Confirm Location and Time for Munas-Konbes
The General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU), KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, stated that his organisation will convene a plenary meeting on Thursday, 21 May 2026. This forum is intended to determine the timing and location for the National Assembly of Ulama (Munas) and the Grand Conference (Konbes) of Nahdlatul Ulama. According to him, the PBNU Rais Aam has already approved the plan for this plenary meeting.
“That plenary meeting will be to decide the time and place for the Munas-Konbes,” said the figure commonly known as Gus Yahya to journalists at the PBNU office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
He explained that the outcomes of the Munas-Konbes will also serve as a forum to discuss and decide on the location and timing for the 35th Congress of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
“Then, in the Munas-Konbes, the time and place for the main event will be discussed and decided,” he said.
Gus Yahya revealed that numerous regions have already submitted proposals to host the 35th NU Congress. Some of the areas mentioned include DKI Jakarta, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Java, Central Java, and West Java.
“There are many proposals. Jakarta has requested it, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, NTB, several from East Java, Central Java, West Java—many indeed,” he said.
He emphasised that the final decision will be made through NU’s distinctive mechanism, which prioritises consultation and the wisdom of senior clerics.
“So, we will discuss it and decide in the NU way. The NU way means with the policies and wisdom from the senior clerics in that environment,” explained Gus Yahya.
Previously, the Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board for DKI Jakarta, KH Samsul Ma’arif, revealed that the PWNU DKI Jakarta has sent a request letter to PBNU to hold the 35th NU Congress in Jakarta.
According to Samsul, Jakarta is considered the most prepared in terms of accommodation and transportation, especially as the Congress date approaches.
“The PWNU DKI Jakarta has submitted a request letter to hold the Congress in Jakarta because time is running short. In my view, Jakarta is the most convenient in terms of accommodation and transportation for everyone,” said Samsul.
