PBNU to hold plenary on 21 May to determine time and place for Munas-Konbes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) will hold a plenary meeting on 21 May 2026 to determine the time and place for the implementation of the National Scholars’ Deliberation (Munas) and Grand Conference (Konbes) of Nahdlatul Ulama.
“The committee has been approved, and today there is the first committee meeting. The Rais Aam has agreed to hold the plenary on 21 May. That will be to decide the time and place for Munas and Konbes,” said PBNU General Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The outcomes of this Munas and Konbes will determine when and where PBNU’s highest forum, the Muktamar, will be held. In this muktamar, the new PBNU leadership term for the next five years will be determined.
Gus Yahya said many proposals have emerged regarding the location for Munas-Konbes and the muktamar, such as Jakarta, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, NTB, East Java, and West Java.
“So we will discuss it and decide in the NU way. The NU way means with policies and wisdom from the senior clerics in that environment,” said Gus Yahya.
Regarding the names emerging as candidates for PBNU general chairman, Gus Yahya welcomes anyone to run. One name rumoured to be running is Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar.
When asked if Gus Yahya would run again in the contest for general chairman, he said he wants to complete all promises made when he was elected as PBNU leader at the muktamar in Lampung.
