PBNU to Hold 35th NU Congress on 1-5 August 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) has set the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress to take place from 1 to 5 August 2026. “Insha Allah, the NU Congress will be held from 1 to 5 August 2026,” said the General Secretary of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (Sekjen PBNU) Saifullah Yusuf in Jakarta on Thursday. However, PBNU has not yet decided on the venue for the congress. Several regions have been proposed as hosts for the NU Congress. Nevertheless, the determination of the event location is still under discussion, taking into account ease of access, availability of facilities and infrastructure, as well as the short preparation time deemed insufficient. “There are several regions that have proposed to be hosts, such as NTB, West Sumatra, and East Java. But everything will of course depend on the meeting results, considering various factors including access, facilities and infrastructure, with the consideration of very short time, around two months,” said Saifullah Yusuf. The PBNU General Secretary, who also serves as the Minister of Social Affairs, added that the main agenda of the 35th NU Congress is the election of the PBNU General Chairman. In addition, influential individuals will be selected to join the ranks of Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi (AHWA). Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi is the mechanism for electing the Rais Aam. To date, preparations for the 35th NU Congress are still being refined. PBNU is also verifying the list of voting participants. Before the 35th NU Congress is held, PBNU is scheduled to first hold the National Ulama Consultation (Munas) and the Grand Conference (Konbes) in June 2026. The results from the Munas and Konbes will serve as material for the 35th NU Congress.
