PBNU Leaders Unanimously Wear Palestinian Scarves During New Management Announcement

The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) for the 2026-2031 period has emphasised its commitment to continue supporting the struggle for Palestinian independence.

This commitment was demonstrated symbolically during the announcement of the new PBNU management structure at the PBNU Office on Wednesday (30/09/2026) evening. The Rais Aam of PBNU, KH Miftachul Akhyar, the General Chairman of PBNU, KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz (Gus Kikin), and the attending PBNU officials all wore scarves featuring the Palestinian flag pattern.

Gus Kikin stated that support for Palestinian independence is not a new issue for NU. According to him, this stance has been part of NU’s history of struggle since the era of KH Hasyim Asy’ari, the founder of Nahdlatul Ulama.

“This is actually an issue that has existed for a very long time,” he said. He noted that as far back as 1938-39, during the time of Kiai Hasyim Asy’ari as the founder of NU, voices were already raised for Palestinian independence. “And now, we are continuing it,” Gus Kikin remarked following the announcement of the PBNU structure.

As a great-grandson of KH Hasyim Asy’ari, Gus Kikin emphasised that the 2026-2031 PBNU management will uphold this commitment. The use of Palestinian scarves during the announcement of the management structure serves as a symbol that the Palestinian issue remains a priority within the NU movement.
