PBNU Invites Prabowo to Open 35th NU Congress in Jombang
The Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) has officially invited President Prabowo Subianto to open the 35th NU Congress, which will be held at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java, from 27 to 31 August 2026. PBNU Secretary-General and Chairman of the Congress Organising Committee, Saifullah Yusuf, known as Gus Ipul, stated that preparations are ongoing with the event just days away. ‘PBNU is continuing its preparations with only 40 days left. Hopefully everything runs smoothly, and it is expected to be opened directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Prabowo Subianto. PBNU has officially invited him to open the 35th NU Congress in Jombang,’ he said at the East Java PWNU Office in Surabaya on Tuesday (21/7). In addition to arranging the president’s attendance, PBNU is consolidating with Regional NU Boards (PWNU) and Branch NU Boards (PCNU) across Indonesia to ensure all regional administrators can participate as full members in accordance with their rights. ‘I hope all regional and branch boards that have not yet completed the required letters or documents to obtain a Decree from PBNU will continue to strive and work hard to make the best use of the remaining time,’ he added. Gus Ipul noted that PBNU has granted a special policy for PWNU boards across Papua, along with assistance and mitigation for branches and regions that have not yet completed their documentation to obtain the Decree. ‘PBNU is providing an opportunity for all regional and branch boards to follow the process and become full congress participants. PBNU has also given a special policy for PWNU across Papua and is providing assistance and mitigation to branches and regions that have not completed their documents in order to obtain the decree,’ he said. The Minister of Social Affairs also mentioned that PBNU has appointed a team from the Syuriah council, led by Mohammad Nuh, to finalise all PWNU and PCNU decrees. Gus Ipul also urged all PWNU and PCNU members to access information regarding the Congress through official PBNU media and sources. He asked NU members not to easily trust reporting that does not align with the facts. ‘Do not be easily deceived, do not easily believe hoax news or news that may not correspond to reality. This is important because there is a lot of misleading news out there, news that sometimes has the nuance of misleading. We hope this is ignored and that everyone follows all the official processes carried out by PBNU,’ he stated. Gus Ipul expressed his gratitude to PWNU East Java, PCNU across East Java, and the Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School for their participation and contribution to the success of the upcoming 35th NU Congress.
