PBNU Inaugurates 41 Nutrition Service Units Across Indonesia
West Lombok, NTB — The Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama's Executive Board (PBNU), KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, inaugurated 41 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) for the Free Nutritious Meals programme, managed by Islamic boarding school (pesantren) foundations under Indonesia's largest religious organisation.
The inauguration of the 41 SPPG units under PBNU's umbrella was centred at Pondok Pesantren Darul Qur'an in Bengkel Village, Labuapi District, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Saturday afternoon.
PBNU Chairman KH Yahya Cholil Staquf said the development of SPPG units managed by NU-affiliated foundations was carried out to assist and ensure the success of President Prabowo's Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.
"Today we are inaugurating 41 SPPG units that are part of the MBG programme acceleration consultation team network established by PBNU," he said, accompanied by NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, NTB PWNU Chairman Masnun Tahir, and Director of Provision and Distribution for Region II of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Nurjaeni.
"Hopefully in the near future, the target of 1,000 SPPG units that we previously set out can be realised and achieved," he said.
Gus Yahya noted that the 41 SPPG units inaugurated by PBNU came from various regions, including NTB, West Java, Central Java, and East Java.
"NTB is the fourth location. We first inaugurated units in Cirebon, Jember, Batang, and now NTB. Specifically in NTB, 36 SPPG units were inaugurated today," he said.
He emphasised that operational SPPG units must always ensure the food menus served remain hygienic, clean, and healthy to avoid any undesirable incidents.
"The students, santri, and beneficiaries of the MBG programme are not merely statistical figures. They are our children. Therefore, we must not subject children to incidents we do not wish to see. After all, these children are the future of the nation," he said.
NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal explained the provincial government's support for PBNU's efforts in helping ensure the success of the government programme by building 1,000 SPPG units across Indonesia.
"This is an excellent step, because pesantren have their own income. For supplies, pesantren also have the opportunity to empower communities by sourcing MBG needs locally. For example, congregants could manage poultry farms to supply eggs for MBG, as well as vegetables and chillies, creating an economic circulation ecosystem within the pesantren. As a result, the President's aspiration to see strong pesantren can be fulfilled through these SPPG units," he said.
