I wish to express my appreciation, appreciation, and thanks to the governments of Iran and the United States for successfully reaching this ceasefire agreement,” said Gus Yahya at the PBNU headquarters in Central Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026). Gus Yahya hopes that it will not be just a ceasefire, but that true peace will be realised between the conflicting parties. Because, in his view, war is a problem for humanity. “Of course, we all hope that this will become permanent and that this ceasefire will be followed by agreements to stop violence altogether. We urge, call upon, and demand that all violence be stopped by anyone,” he stated. He also spoke about the TNI soldiers who fell in Lebanon. According to him, that is a risk of the humanitarian mission that has been understood from the beginning. “Regarding our soldiers becoming victims in Israel’s attack on Lebanon and on UNIFIL, I think that is indeed part of the risk that must be realised from the start when we are involved in peacekeeping forces like that,” said Gus Yahya. Gus Yahya believes that the government better understands how to respond to the incident of those soldiers’ deaths. However, in general, he encourages the importance of realising a peaceful situation. “Wherever it happens, soldiers are indeed prepared for that. And I think our President is also a soldier, so he understands very well. But first and foremost, what must be strived for is order and peace,” he said. Furthermore, Gus Yahya also appreciated the Gulf countries for not retaliating against the attack launched by Iran. From PBNU, efforts are being made to create social resilience amid the ongoing conflict situation. “This cannot be done unilaterally by any element. This must be done together in joint cooperation. We must be able, our society must be able to develop the capacity to help each other at the grassroots level,” he said. Gus Yahya hopes that all of society unites to face the uncertain situation amid the heated global geopolitical situation. He asked that no one in society provoke or divide. “Let us consolidate together to strive for common welfare, so that we can survive together. Because it’s impossible for anyone to survive alone,” he said. “We are fortunate to have the gotong royong tradition, and we must build a model so that our society at the grassroots level can help each other,” he added.
