Jombang (ANTARA) - The Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) continues to finalise preparations ahead of the 35th NU Congress at Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Tambakberas, Jombang Regency, East Java, scheduled for 27–31 August 2026.

Chairman of the Local Committee for the 35th NU Congress, Kiai Haji Abdurrozaq Sholeh, said physical readiness of the congress arena has now reached around 80 per cent and is being accelerated ahead of the event.

“Physically it is 80 per cent. The remaining 20 per cent is finishing work for interior arrangements,” said Gus Rozaq, as he is familiarly known, in Jombang on Wednesday.

He said coordination also continues between the local committee and PBNU. The local committee is ensuring readiness of the arena, supporting facilities, and various activities that will accompany the organisation’s gathering.

Gus Rozaq revealed that a number of main tents have been erected in the Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School area in Jombang. A roder-type tent has been prepared for the opening ceremony, while several other large tents will be used as arenas for the organisation’s plenary sessions.

The committee is currently focusing work on completing interiors, installing furnishings, and supporting facilities to ensure the comfort of participants and invited guests.

One of the facilities being installed is around 200 air conditioning units in the main tent area. Completion of these facilities is targeted within the next few days.

The event is scheduled to open to the public on Thursday (20/8).

Gus Rozaq added that around 1,300 stalls have been prepared to accommodate MSME players, culinary traders, and sellers of various congress-themed merchandise.

The bazaar location stretches from alley four and alley five eastward to the parking area for NU Congress participants.

“We have prepared approximately 1,300 tenants for the UMKM Expo and bazaar. The location starts from alley four, alley five, then stretches eastward to near the congress participants’ parking area,” he said.

Besides being part of the supporting series for the NU Congress, the UMKM Expo and bazaar are also expected to provide space for the community to do business while stimulating the local economy during the event.

“Our hope is that this opens space for the community to do business while moving the wheels of the local economy during the event,” he said.

The 35th NU Congress at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School area in Tambakberas, Jombang, on 27–31 August 2026, will serve as NU’s highest deliberative forum to discuss various organisational agendas.

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the congress opening ceremony.
