PBNU Congress Accelerated to Early August 2026

JAKARTA - The 35th Congress of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) will be accelerated from its original schedule in December 2026 to August 2026. Muhammad Mukri, Chairman of the Education, Law, and Media Division of PBNU, stated that the implementation date has been proposed by Rais Aam PBNU, Miftachul Akhyar, specifically from 1-5 August. “If the Rais Aam proposes from 1-5 (August),” he told Kompas.com on Monday (4/5/2026). However, during the 34th Congress in Lampung, when Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya was elected as General Chairman of PBNU, accompanied by Saifullah Yusuf or Gus Ipul as Secretary General, there was a delay of several months. That delay occurred due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so what was initially scheduled for August had to be postponed until December 2021. Currently, Mukri said, through the plenary meeting, they want the congress to be returned to its original position, namely August 2026. However, to date, the location for the 35th Congress is still being deliberated.
