PBNU Chairman Unveils Five Principles of Mabadi Khaira Ummah

JAKARTA – Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf has explained the concept of Saadatuna as a commentary on the Mabadi Khaira Ummah, the basic principles for forming the best community initiated by former PBNU chairman KH Mahfudz Shiddiq. PBNU launched the Saadatuna digital platform in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026).

He explained that there are five main principles in Mabadi Khaira Ummah, namely ash-shidqu (honesty), al-amanah wal wafa bil ahdi (trustworthiness and keeping promises), al-adalah (justice), al-istiqamah (consistency), and taawun (mutual assistance in goodness).

“The first principle, ash-shidqu, is the main foundation because honesty is a basic requirement in building social life. Before everything else, number one is honesty. That is why KH Mahfudz Shiddiq placed ash-shidqu first,” he said in a statement on Thursday (6/8/2026).

He stated that honesty does not distort facts. According to him, social relations and economic activities will not function properly if they are tainted by dishonesty.

“What we can strive for is how the honest can truly remain victorious, even if their honesty is not visible,” he said.

The second principle is al-amanah wal wafa bil ahdi, which means safeguarding trust and fulfilling promises. He stressed that a mandate is a deposit that must be protected, not owned or exploited beyond its intended purpose.
