PBNU Chairman Hopes Ceasefire Becomes Permanent
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), Yahya Cholil Staquf, has commended the achievement of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States and hopes it can be realised on a permanent basis.
“Hoping this becomes permanent. This ceasefire is accompanied by stopping all violence,” said Gus Yahya at the PBNU Building in Jakarta on Friday.
Gus Yahya stated that the cessation of the US-Israeli aggression against Iran must be supported and appreciated. According to him, violence in any form must be stopped because it threatens all of humanity.
He also appreciated Pakistan’s active role in moderating between Iran and the United States until the ceasefire was achieved.
“Appreciation to the Pakistani government for its efforts to act as a mediator in communication between the conflicting parties,” he said.
“Appreciating the Gulf states for not retaliating against the attacks and even refusing to allow their territories to be used as bases for attacking Iran,” he said.
Previously, Gus Yahya had met with several ambassadors from directly involved and affected countries, such as Iran, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
On that occasion, Gus Yahya also conveyed that Indonesia must position itself as a friend, considering that the countries directly involved in this war are friendly nations.
War and violence anywhere and for whatever reason, in his view, are humanitarian disasters that must be prevented.
“Therefore, we must position ourselves as friends,” he said.
According to him, this war impacts not only the involved countries but the world at large. This impact clearly complicates matters for the countries involved and their societies. Therefore, he believes it must be addressed collectively, as no one can escape it.
“All countries are affected and all are struggling with this impact,” he said.
