Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of PBNU, Abdul Hakim Mahrend, has emphasised that Nahdlatul Ulama’s (NU) service to the community will be based on the Qanun Asasi, a vital document that serves as the soul of NU’s struggle.

“In this period, a previous document compiled by the Muassis (founders), namely the Qanun Asasi book, will serve as the reference for NU as a whole in carrying out activities aimed at seeking the pleasure of Allah SWT,” said Abdul Hakim Mahfudz at the PBNU Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Some time ago, the man commonly known as Gus Kikin explained that the Al-Qanun Al-Asasi had not been brought to the forefront or utilised in NU’s organisational life for a long time.

Over the last three years, he has endeavoured to collect and re-organise various Qanun Asasi documents, which consist of four chapters.

The Al-Qanun al-Asasi (Constitution) is a fundamental treatise or ideological constitution drafted by Hadratussyekh Hasyim Asy’ari. This text, he stated, serves as the spiritual, intellectual, and guiding foundation for the struggle of NU members.

Gus Kikin noted that serving the community is a responsibility entrusted by the founders of NU. Therefore, the new PBNU administration holds the responsibility to nurture the community and fulfil the mandate of NU’s founders.

“Following this (the announcement of the structure), we have a responsibility to the public, just as NU was established to nurture the community and carry out what was entrusted by the muassis,” he said.

Previously, PBNU announced its management structure for the 2026-2031 term. Gus Kikin appointed Gufdan Arif as the Secretary General of PBNU, Ainun Na’im as the General Treasurer, and Muhammad Nuh as Khatib Aam.

The announcement also marked the completion of the management structure formation process following the 35th NU Muktamar at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java.

“Hopefully, with the announcement of this management structure, we shall begin our service from tomorrow morning,” he concluded.
