Prof. Mukri explained that the narrative circulating, which claims the circular serves as the basis for the Muktamar organising committee, is untrue or a hoax. Moreover, the report is embellished with claims that the Muktamar committee chairman must be a PBNU Deputy Chairman. “So, this circular is indeed not for the Muktamar organising committee. The circular regulates organising committees within the institutions, PWNU, and PCNU,” said Prof. Mukri in a written statement on Monday (4/5/2026). Prof. Mukri added that this can be clearly seen in point 4 of the circular. In the provisions regarding the Steering Committee or SC, it states that the SC Chairman must be held by one of the Deputy Rais, while the SC Secretary can be held by the Katib or one of the Deputy Katib. Regarding the Organising Committee or OC, the circular states that the OC Chairman must be held by one of the deputy chairmen, while the OC Secretary can be held by the secretary or one of the deputy secretaries. “From this formulation alone, it is clear that the circular regulates organising committees at certain management levels, such as PWNU and PCNU, not for the PBNU Muktamar organising committee,” he stressed. Prof. Mukri revealed that the Muktamar NU organising committee has been discussed and determined through the PBNU plenary meeting. In that decision, the Rais Aam and PBNU General Chairman were appointed as responsible parties. Meanwhile, the Katib Aam was appointed as the Steering Committee Chairman and the PBNU Secretary General as the Organising Committee Chairman. According to Prof. Mukri, this composition is intended to ensure that the Muktamar has strong legitimacy because it involves the four highest leadership elements of PBNU. “This appointment is made so that the Muktamar is legitimate. The four highest PBNU leaders are directly involved: Rais Aam and General Chairman as responsible parties, Katib Aam as SC Chairman, and Sekjen as OC Chairman,” he explained. Prof. Mukri also urged all parties not to draw the circular into the wrong context. He also asked NU citizens and officials at all levels to refer to the organisation’s official decisions, not to misleading interpretations or narratives. “I don’t know why so many people like spreading hoaxes now. Don’t build opinions that do not match the content of the circular. We must read the document in full and place it in its proper context,” Prof. Mukri concluded.
