PBNU Calls for Evaluation of Santri Protection Following Pati Rape Case
PBNU has conveyed deep concern regarding the alleged sexual violence that occurred at one of the pesantrens in Pati. This incident is a serious crime that not only violates the law but also contradicts religious values, morals, and the trust in education, stated Gus Fahrur to reporters on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
He stated that the perpetrator’s actions must not be tolerated. Gus Fahrur described the actions of the pesantren founder in Pati as deviant and misguided.
“PBNU emphasises that all forms of sexual violence, especially against minors, are despicable acts that cannot be tolerated under any circumstances,” said Gus Fahrur.
“The use of religious pretexts or symbols to justify such actions constitutes a deviation and heresy that must be firmly corrected,” he added.
He supports the ongoing police investigation. He stated that this sexual crime case does not reflect Islamic teachings.
“Full support for the fair and transparent enforcement of the law, and urging that the perpetrator be given the heaviest possible sanctions in accordance with legal provisions. Affirming that such actions are the deeds of an individual and do not reflect Islamic teachings or the pesantren tradition that upholds morals, honour, and protection of santri,” he explained.
Evaluation of Santri Protection
PBNU is pushing for an evaluation of the santri protection system across all religious institutions. He also reminded that victims must be provided with protection and legal assistance during the case proceedings.
“Urging the evaluation and strengthening of the santri protection system in all religious educational institutions, including increased supervision and the provision of safe and independent reporting mechanisms,” said Gus Fahrur.
“Emphasising the importance of accompaniment and recovery for victims, both psychologically, socially, and legally, prioritising the protection and respect for the victim’s dignity,” he added.
Pesantren Founder Named Suspect
It is known that the police have named the founder of the pesantren in Tlogowungu, Pati, with initials AS, as a suspect for allegedly raping his female students. The victim’s lawyer suspects AS has raped 50 people.
Cited from detikJateng on Tuesday (5/5), the victim’s lawyer, Ali Yusron, stated that the rape case has occurred since 2024. He said there are eight people who have reported to the police, but the number of victims is estimated to reach 50 people.
“The reported victims are eight people. Actually, from witness statements, the victims number more than 30 to 50 underage female students in year 1 and year 2 of junior high school,” said Ali.
