PB PII Calls for Unity, Rejects Provocative Actions

The Central Board of the Indonesian Islamic Students (PB PII) has responded to the growing plans for a demonstration on 27 August. PB PII stated that it rejects any form of action used as a means of provocation. This was conveyed directly by the Chairman of PB PII, Kevin Prayoga, during a press conference in the Tebet area of South Jakarta on Saturday (22/8/2026). Kevin assessed that the expression of public aspirations is a right, provided it is delivered in an orderly manner. “PB PII is observing the planned action by the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB) at the DPR on 27 August 2026. PB PII understands that the emergence of various public aspirations is normal in democratic life,” said Kevin. “However, every form of public mobilisation must ensure that the expression of aspirations does not develop into a space for spreading provocation, hate politics, disinformation, agitation, or narratives that could sharpen social polarisation within society,” he continued. Kevin stated that the expression of aspirations is guaranteed by law. However, the freedom to express aspirations must still be accompanied by state ethics, upholding the principle of public order, and mutual respect for the rights of fellow citizens. “The expression of aspirations is an important part of democracy, but it must always be placed within the framework of public interest, respect for the law, and a commitment to maintaining national unity and integrity,” he said. Kevin also called on all parties to continue to safeguard unity together. For him, expressing aspirations must still uphold constitutional responsibility so that unity remains preserved. “Freedom of expression is one of the foundations of democratic life, but that freedom cannot be separated from the constitutional responsibility to maintain public order, respect the rights of other citizens, and preserve the unity and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said. Kevin also conveyed PB PII’s statement of position regarding the dynamics of the planned action. There are 12 points in PB PII’s statement of position. The following is PB PII’s statement of position: 1. PB PII is committed to maintaining national unity and integrity and promoting a healthy, civilised, constitutional democracy oriented towards the interests of the people. 2. Respecting the right of every citizen to express opinions in public as long as it is carried out in accordance with statutory regulations, maintaining order, and respecting the rights and freedoms of other citizens. 3. Rejecting all forms of action that turn democratic spaces into vehicles for spreading provocation, hate politics, agitation, disinformation, violence, or narratives that could divide national unity. 4. Encouraging all elements of society to prioritise the principles of transparency and accountability in every form of mass mobilisation carried out in the name of or on behalf of the people’s interests. 5. Encouraging the government and the DPR to open constructive, transparent, and substantive dialogue spaces for public aspirations so that every national issue can be resolved through democratic and constitutional mechanisms. 6. Urging the public not to be easily provoked by unverified information, especially information deliberately designed to build hatred, pit community groups against each other, or encourage horizontal conflict. 7. Encouraging law enforcement officers to act professionally, proportionately, humanely, and based on the law while ensuring public safety and protecting citizens’ constitutional rights to express opinions. 8. Rejecting all forms of public mobilisation that use the identity of the people as legitimacy for political interests or the interests of certain groups that are not transparent and cannot be accounted for to the public. 9. Inviting all youth organisations, students, pupils, community organisations, religious leaders, community leaders, and all elements of the nation to prioritise dialogue, deliberation, and peaceful and constitutional problem-solving. 10. Affirming PB PII’s position as a critical, independent, constructive, and responsible civil society force that does not hesitate to criticise power when public policy deviates from the people’s interests, while still placing national unity and safety as the common interest. 11. Inviting all parties to make democracy a space for bringing differences together, not enlarging hostility. Criticism may be sharp, aspirations may be strong, but national brotherhood must be maintained. 12. PB PII firmly rejects all forms of hijacking, provocation, agitation, or infiltration of interests in the AMPB action that could distort the substance of public aspirations and lead to disruption of national stability, the creation of chaos, as well as anarchic actions and damage to public facilities. PB PII calls for every action to take place in an orderly, peaceful, responsible manner, and to always respect the law, the rights of other communities, and the interests of unity and the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. On this occasion, this statement of position was conveyed as a manifestation of the commitment of the Central Board of the Indonesian Islamic Students in maintaining a healthy, orderly, and responsible democratic life, while strengthening national unity and integrity. PB PII hopes that all parties can place every difference and aspiration within the constitutional corridor, prioritise dialogue and deliberation, and reject all forms of provocation, violence, or actions that could disrupt public order. May this collective effort become part of the endeavour to maintain peace, strengthen national solidarity, and ensure that every struggle for the people’s interests always goes hand in hand with the responsibility to safeguard the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
