Payout for kin of lecturers

INDONESIA: The accident insurance company Jasa Rahardja announced on Saturday that it would pay compensation to the families of three lecturers from state-owned Sriwijaya University, who were killed in a crash on a highway in South Sumatra.

Company spokesman Bastiar Telaumbanua said the compensation, amounting to Rp 10 million (US$1,176) for each victim, would be handed over to the bereaved families as soon as possible.

The agriculture lecturers -- Romlah, 45; Lanjar Widodo, 46; and Sri Yunaida, 44 -- were killed in a car crash along the Palembang-Indralaya highway on Friday afternoon.

Their car was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction, and another truck hit them again from behind.

Authorities are now investigating the accident. --Antara
