Payment card for retailers launched

JAKARTA (JP): Consumer goods distributor PT Wicaksana Overseas International launched a Visa card that allows customers to settle their bills from their mobile phones.

Wicaksana president Bachtiar Yusuf said on Friday that merchant customers with a Visa credit card account could process payment through LippoBank by using a mobile phone and the card.

"Payments will be directly debited from their accounts right after the transactions are approved by Visa," Bachtiar said, adding the process simplified and quickened the payment.

The agreement was signed by Bachtiar, Visa International executive vice president for Southeast Asia and China James Murray and LippoBank president Ian B. Clyne at the Jakarta American Club on Friday.

Wicaksana, which boasts up to Rp 240 billion ($25.26 million) turnover each month, expects at least 10 percent of its 200,000 clients to take advantage of the card facility, Bachtiar said.

LippoBank managing director Harry Sasongko said the facility would also be made available for other companies. (03)
