Paying Last Respects, CT Recalls Final Embrace with Rachmat Gobel

Chairul Tanjung (CT), Chairman of CT Corp, has recalled his final embrace with the late Rachmat Gobel, which took place a few weeks ago. The NasDem Party member of the House of Representatives (DPR) passed away in the early hours of Friday morning.

“The last communication was about 2-3 weeks ago. We gathered with senior indigenous entrepreneurs who had been active in government. We met for a meal at my office. I remember clearly he hugged me incredibly tightly. But I didn’t think anything of it; we chatted casually and laughed,” CT said after paying his respects at the funeral home in the Tebet area of South Jakarta on Friday (10/7/2026).

CT recounted that he and Rachmat Gobel were entrepreneurs from the same generation. He also revealed that his relationship with Rachmat Gobel was very good.

“I am a contemporary of his. We practically belong to the same generation of entrepreneurs. And we were also active in government. Our relationship was very good,” he said.

CT then expressed his deep condolences over the passing of Rachmat Gobel. CT felt a profound sense of loss at the departure of his friend.

“Of course, we mourn his passing, the loss of my friend. Mr Rachmat Gobel, God willing, may he have a blessed end (husnulkhotimah),” CT hoped.

Previously, Rachmat Gobel passed away in the early hours of Friday (10/7) in Jakarta. The sad news was confirmed by NasDem Party Central Leadership Board (DPP) Chairman Willy Aditya.

“My condolences. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. H. Rachmat Gobel has returned to the grace of God on Friday, 10 July 2026, at 03.20 WIB, in Jakarta,” said Willy.
