A social media post claiming that paying annual motor vehicle tax in East Java also includes an additional annual parking subscription fee is currently a topic of discussion. The information was shared by the Instagram account @ariesaditya, which displayed a photo of the vehicle tax payment receipt. “The info is that in East Java, you’ve already paid the Rp 60,000 annual parking subscription along with the annual motor vehicle tax,” the account wrote. In response, the East Java Police Traffic Directorate Chief, Kombes Pol Iwan Saktiadi, emphasised that parking matters are not under Samsat’s authority. “That’s the tax deduction notice shown. Parking isn’t with us,” he said when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (5/5/2026). He explained that Samsat only handles vehicle administration such as STNK and state non-tax revenue (PNBP), not parking retributions. “Because at Samsat, it’s clear for STNK. Parking and such are under the Regional Revenue Agency (Dispenda), not us,” he said. Furthermore, he explained that the components listed in vehicle documents differ from local retributions. “We don’t have that. STNK only includes PNBP. That’s clear for STNK, as STNK is the Vehicle Registration Certificate. Meanwhile, the tax notice relates to the tax amount set by each local government,” he stated. An annual parking subscription is a system for collecting annual parking retributions paid once a year, usually alongside motor vehicle tax payments. This payment is marked by a special sticker and grants vehicle owners the right to park on public roadsides or road shoulders in certain areas without daily fees during the valid period.
