Paying Annual Vehicle Tax in Bekasi No Longer Requires BPKB: Here is the Explanation
Residents of Bekasi City and Regency are now not required to bring the Vehicle Owner’s Book (BPKB) when paying annual motor vehicle tax at Samsat offices. However, the head of the Regional Revenue Processing Centre for Samsat Bekasi City, Dani Hendrato, explained that the BPKB remains required for five-yearly vehicle tax payments. This is to ensure the authenticity of vehicle ownership.
‘For the five-yearly payments, you must still bring the BPKB. Therefore the physical check must be carried out again to verify whether the vehicle is still the same or has changed, or there has been a change of ownership. The BPKB remains necessary,’ Dani said when Kompas.com visited the Samsat Bekasi Timur office on Friday (6 March 2026).
‘If the person presenting is not the taxpayer in question, there must still be a power of attorney at least from the owner named on the BPKB,’ he added.
This policy is part of a new regulation announced by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi to facilitate motor vehicle tax services.
‘If a person is exercising, they cannot bring the BPKB, right? But now by only bringing the STNK and ID card, they can be served,’ Dani added.
To date, Dani said the number of residents paying motor vehicle tax remains normal and there has been no significant surge.
He also urged the public to take advantage of online services via the Samsat Digital Nasional (Signal) app.
‘Annual payments can be made via Signal, via the online application. So there is no backlog in the service room,’ he said.
‘That is very good because it helps residents by cutting bureaucracy and makes paying tax easier,’ he said.
He hoped the education regarding this policy would continue so that the public remains more compliant in paying motor vehicle tax.
Previously, Dedi Mulyadi stated that from 3 March 2026, residents in Depok, Bekasi City, and Bekasi Regency no longer need to bring the original or photocopies of the BPKB when paying motor vehicle tax.
‘From today, there is no need to bring the BPKB original or photocopies and the service can be carried out immediately,’ Dedi said in a video statement.
He hopes this policy will speed up service and help the public meet their tax obligations.
