Payakumbuh-Sitangkai Road Completed, Andre Rosiade: Prabowo's Commitment to Build West Sumatra
Deputy Chairman of House Commission VI, Andre Rosiade, has inspected the Payakumbuh-Sitangkai road section in Jorong Bulakan, Nagari Tanjuang Gadang, Lareh Sago Halaban District, Limapuluh Kota Regency. Andre stated that the road construction has been completed, allowing local residents to enjoy it comfortably.
The inspection by the Gerindra Party politician was carried out together with the Head of the West Sumatra National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN), Elsa Putra Friandi, on Saturday (22/8). The 9.5-kilometre road section was built with a budget of approximately Rp 68 billion through the Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads (IJD) programme funded by the state budget.
“Alhamdulillah, it is finished and smooth. The public can now enjoy this road,” said Andre in his statement on Sunday (23/8/2026).
According to him, the road construction is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to accelerate infrastructure development in West Sumatra. The construction was also monitored by the Ministry of Public Works through the National Road Agency.
“This is the President’s commitment to help accelerate West Sumatra’s development. The President wants West Sumatra to be developed, with funds disbursed through the Ministry of Public Works, through the National Road Agency, using the state budget,” he said.
Andre stated that after the Payakumbuh-Sitangkai section, the government will continue construction of the section from Sitangkai to Guguk Cino and from Guguk Cino to Bukit Gombak in Batusangkar. Approximately 3.3 kilometres of road are planned to be built with a total budget of around Rp 36.5 billion.
“God willing, if all goes smoothly, in November or by the end of this year we can begin construction work from Sitangkai to Guguk Cino and from Guguk Cino to Bukit Gombak in Batusangkar,” he said.
Andre said the continuation of construction is also being pushed through the IJD programme. Once Batusangkar connectivity is realised, construction will continue in 2027 for the Batusangkar to Ombilin route.
“Our target is for completion by mid-2027,” he said.
Andre emphasised that the road construction has a direct impact on public mobility. Previously, the damaged and potholed road made it difficult for residents to pass, especially during rain.
“The community is greatly helped; their mobility is improved. They no longer fear accidents or falls due to the previously damaged, poor and muddy road. Hopefully this road can be maintained so it does not become damaged, allowing the community to enjoy it for longer,” said Andre.
Head of BPJN West Sumatra, Elsa Putra Friandi, explained that the road construction used concrete or rigid pavement, considering the soil conditions and the area’s vulnerability to water. This is expected to make the road more durable.
“The soil conditions here are indeed challenging. That is why, at the design stage, we chose rigid concrete construction, so that it is more durable under load and in areas prone to water,” explained Friandi.
Friandi said the road width was also increased from approximately four metres to six metres, with concrete thickness reaching 30 centimetres. According to him, the road has a maximum axle load standard of approximately eight tonnes and can accommodate heavier vehicle loads in accordance with conditions and technical provisions.
Regarding the 2027 IJD programme, Friandi said proposals from districts and cities in West Sumatra currently amount to approximately Rp 500 billion. These proposals are still in the verification and finalisation process.
“The administration is in order and has been evaluated. The National Road Agency has proposed it to the Ministry of Public Works. It is still in the verification and finalisation process, just waiting for the budget to be disbursed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Wali Nagari of Tanjuang Gadang, Zamhar, expressed gratitude for the road construction. Residents can now enjoy better and safer road access.
“Thank you, Mr Andre. Thank you, President Prabowo, for the road. Previously we ate road dust, now alhamdulillah,” said Zamhar.
A similar sentiment was expressed by Mai Roza, a teacher at SD 01 Tanjuang Gadang. She said the road damage had persisted for nearly 10 years and had never received comprehensive repairs.
“It has been nearly 10 years. There were no repairs before,” she said.
She noted that previous repairs were limited to patching potholes. However, the damage would reappear after rain or when passed by heavy vehicles.
“There were repairs, perhaps if the road had potholes they would patch it a little. The next day it would rain again and the potholes would return,” added Mai.
