Pawnshops Eye Gains from Gold - Business Insight

JAKARTA – Whilst forecasts indicate gold price increases in 2026 will be less pronounced than in previous years, pawnshop companies remain optimistic that profits will grow. The gold pawning business is no longer solely dependent on gold prices, but rather on portfolio management strategy, digitalisation, and transaction volume.

Pegadaian (Persero), for instance, is targeting net profits exceeding 9 trillion rupiah this year. “Pegadaian’s financing-based business model is heavily influenced by transaction volume and frequency, as well as the quality of risk management,” said Ferdian Timur Satyagraha, Director of Finance and Strategic Planning, on Friday (27 February).
