Patung Jenderal Sudirman to Remain in Place Inside 'Donut' Bridge
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that the construction of the pedestrian deck, or ‘donut’ ring bridge, in Dukuh Atas will not involve moving the statue of General Sudirman. The statue will be situated exactly in the middle of the ring bridge.
"The most important thing, after we pondered for days, is that the statue of General Sudirman will remain in this place. We will not shift it, so it does not become a polemic. This place will become a better, more beautiful place," Pramono said during the launch of the donut ring on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Setia Budi, South Jakarta, Sunday (21/6/2026).
Pramono has reviewed the detailed plans for the donut ring bridge. According to him, the statue of General Sudirman will look very good once the construction is complete.
"I have seen the detailed drawings, so it does not need to be moved. In fact, it will become a place remembered by everyone. This statue will be very visible when people circle above," he added.
He added that the donut bridge will reduce congestion on Jalan Sudirman. According to him, residents will find it easier to transit without disrupting traffic.
"It can be guaranteed that it will reduce congestion. Because why? As we all know, almost every afternoon, or when it is drizzling or raining, and every morning, many people get off at the side of the road. This is what disrupts traffic in this area. Once this is in place, people will no longer descend to the bottom. People will certainly use the path above because those heading to the MRT, airport train, or LRT here will definitely find it easier as everything is above," he explained.
MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat further explained that there will be several facilities on the donut bridge. Crucially, there will be a strategic spot to view the statue of General Sudirman directly.
"The Sudirman statue remains there. Inside the Pedestrian Deck, we will have a platform so that when passing above, one can directly view the Sudirman statue from the platform on the Pedestrian Deck," he stated.
