Pattimura Air Base (Lanud) of the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is partnering with the Open University (UT) Ambon, Maluku, to strengthen the human resource (HR) development of its soldiers by expanding access to flexible higher education without disrupting official duties. Commander of Lanud Pattimura, Colonel Pnb. Adhi Safarul Akbar, stated in Ambon on Wednesday that improving HR quality is a crucial aspect of supporting the professionalism of TNI AU soldiers amidst the advancement of science and technology. “The Open University, with its flexible learning system, is a solution for TNI personnel who wish to continue their education without neglecting their service responsibilities,” he said after receiving an audience with the Director of UT Ambon and his staff at the Lanud Pattimura Command Headquarters. He noted that the cooperation is expected to open more opportunities for Lanud Pattimura personnel to enhance their academic and professional competencies as a foundation for carrying out their duties in service to the nation and state. He also appreciated UT Ambon’s commitment to expanding educational access for all levels of society, including TNI soldiers who face time constraints due to operational demands. During the meeting, both parties discussed various collaborative opportunities, including improving personnel competence through higher education, organising training, and community service programmes. “We welcome this initiative because strengthening human resource capacity is a long-term investment that will have an impact on improving the quality of the organisation,” he said. Meanwhile, Director of UT Ambon, Yuli Tirtariandi El Anshori, explained that the Open University is ready to support the educational advancement of Lanud Pattimura members through programmes accessible anytime and anywhere. “We offer various study programmes that can be tailored to the needs and free time of TNI AU members, so they can continue learning without having to leave their duties and responsibilities,” he said. Yuli added that UT Ambon is committed to providing the best services, including academic and technical guidance for Lanud Pattimura members, emphasising the importance of collaboration in creating superior and competent human resources in the digital era.
