Patimban Port Strengthens Global Connectivity with New Container Service
The shipping connectivity at Patimban Port in Subang, West Java, has been further solidified with the introduction of the ONE–Samudera container service. This milestone was marked by the maiden call of the Singapore-flagged MV Sinar Bintan on 10–11 August 2026. The vessel berthed at the Patimban Container Terminal after sailing from the Port of Tanjung Emas in Semarang, before continuing its journey to Singapore.
Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi, Commissioner of PT Pelabuhan Patimban Internasional (PPI) and Senior Vice President of FIATA, explained that the new service is more than just an additional route. It affirms Patimban’s strategic position as a multi-carrier shipping network that integrates domestic feeder services with global routes. “The entry of ONE–Samudera demonstrates Patimban Port’s readiness to become a node for domestic feeder networks connecting ports in Java with international shipping lanes. This combination forms a healthy hub-and-spoke network,” Yukki stated.
For the first time in its operational history, the Patimban Container Terminal simultaneously served two large vessels at different berths during the 10–11 August period. Alongside the MV Sinar Bintan, the port also handled the MV MSC Independent III, a Portuguese-flagged vessel operating MSC’s regular route from Singapore to Pasir Gudang, Malaysia. The successful handling of two vessels concurrently serves as proof of the port’s operational reliability and berth scheduling capabilities. Yukki added that Patimban is now beginning to capture captive cargo from the industrial base in West Java, transforming it into a primary export gateway for the surrounding industrial estates rather than merely a transit point.
Mohd Arief Agustian, Head of the Class II KSOP Office of Patimban, welcomed the development as part of strengthening the national logistics supply chain in the Asia-Pacific region. The continuously developing infrastructure is expected to attract more businesses to utilise services at Patimban. This success is supported by the Government and Business Entity Cooperation (KPBU) scheme involving PPI, PT Patimban Global Gateway Terminal (PGT), and PT Patimban International Car Terminal (PICT). Looking ahead, the port’s capacity will be further enhanced with the completion of investment in loading and unloading equipment, such as Ship-to-Shore Cranes, by the end of 2026, along with the support of the Patimban Access Toll Road, which is targeted for completion in 2027.
