Patients at Muhammadiyah Hospital in Bima Evacuated to Car Park During NTT Earthquake
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), triggered panic at Muhammadiyah Hospital in Bima City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Patients at the hospital were forced to evacuate to the car park.
“When the earthquake struck this morning, everyone rushed out of the rooms,” said Syaiful, a family member of a patient at Muhammadiyah Hospital Bima, to detikBali on Saturday (15/8/2026).
Syaiful said the tremors were felt quite strongly, causing patients, their families, and healthcare workers to rush outside to save themselves. According to him, the hospital’s occupants became increasingly panicked after receiving information about a tsunami warning.
“The earthquake tremors were very strong, causing panic and making our bodies shake. On top of that, there was a tsunami warning following the earthquake,” he added.
“Everyone came out of the rooms and gathered in the car park because the location was considered safe and far from buildings,” he explained.
Based on circulating video footage, patients could be seen gathered in an empty yard at the hospital. Some had IV drips attached, others were in wheelchairs, and small children were being carried by their mothers.
Homes and Public Facilities Affected by the Earthquake
Head of the Bima City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), A Faruk, said the earthquake that struck Nagekeo, NTT, also caused a number of damages in Bima City, including residential homes and public facilities.
“Based on preliminary reports, two residential homes in Bima City were damaged as a result of the earthquake,” he said.
Faruk said the two homes damaged by the earthquake belonged to Suhardin in Raba District and Agus Setia in Mpunda District. “One unit suffered moderate damage and the other suffered minor damage, with its roof caved in,” he said.
In addition, the earthquake also caused damage to the wall of the Bulog Bima rice storage warehouse. Likewise, the ceiling of the Mutmainnah mosque in the area collapsed due to the earthquake.
“We are still collecting data and monitoring the situation on the ground,” Faruk said.
