Patient dies in 5th-floor leap

JAKARTA: Mamay Riskomar, 54, killed himself by jumping from the fifth floor of Fatmawati Hospital, Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Tuesday morning.

The victim, who had been admitted to the hospital on Sunday due to chronic diabetes mellitus and tuberculosis, had frequently asked to be discharged. His son, Imam Aprianto, said that his father had been complaining of being thirsty and finding it hard to breathe.

At the time of the incident, Mamay had his blood pressure checked by a nurse while Imam waited outside the room. However, after the nurse had left the room, Imam was informed by other patients who shared the room with Mamay that he had removed a drip tube from his body.

Imam said that when he entered the room, his father was standing on a chair on the balcony. "When I called him, he just turned his head and jumped." -- JP
