Patient Bitten by Snake Recovers: Dr Icha's Treatment Before Intimidation
The family is in deep mourning following the death of young doctor Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenomi, known as Dr Icha, who died by suicide after suffering from severe depression. It is alleged that Dr Icha experienced severe depression as a result of facing intimidation from certain members of the North Central Timor (TTU) Regional House of Representatives (DPRD).
The three members of the TTU DPRD claimed to be the family of a patient bitten by a snake who was treated by Dr Icha. While managing the patient in the Emergency Department (IGD) of Leona Kefamenanu Hospital, Dr Icha was allegedly intimidated by these three individuals.
Dr Icha’s uncle, Viktor Manbait, explained the treatment provided by Dr Icha to the snakebite patient that night. On Sunday, 14 June 2026, while on duty at the Leona Hospital Emergency Department at 17:00 WITA, a patient was transferred from the North Central Timor (TTU) Regional General Hospital (RSUD) with a snakebite injury.
The patient had been bitten by a snake since the night of Saturday, 13 June 2026, but was only brought to the Kefamenanu Regional Hospital at 12:30 WITA. The emergency doctors at the Kefamenanu Regional Hospital had already performed medical procedures and confirmed that the effects of the snakebite were in the local phase, meaning the venom had not spread.
Consequently, the hospital authorities conducted observations alongside several treatments. As there was no surgeon available, the surgical management was carried out at Leona Hospital. The duty doctor at the Kefamenanu Regional Hospital had coordinated with the patient’s mother and Dr Icha regarding the patient’s condition, suggesting that anti-venom serum was not necessary.
“Before performing any procedures, Dr Icha had already coordinated with the duty doctor at the Regional Hospital’s Emergency Department,” Viktor Manbait stated during the ‘Apa Kabar Indonesia Malam’ programme on tvOne.
“Furthermore, Dr Icha also consulted with a venom expert in Jakarta regarding the patient’s condition at that time and the necessary actions to be taken. From that consultation, it was confirmed that the condition was in the local phase, thus requiring observation and standard procedures for that stage,” he continued.
The actions taken by Dr Icha included administering intravenous fluids, providing pain relief medication, and applying a cast to the bitten leg to prevent the venom from spreading through movement.
