Patient Bitten by Snake Recovers: Dr Icha's Treatment Before Intimidation

The family of the late Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenomi, known as Dr Icha, has detailed the medical treatment she provided to a snake bite patient before she faced alleged intimidation. The patient, who was bitten by a snake on Saturday evening, 13 June 2026, was initially taken to the Timor Tengah Utara Regional General Hospital at 12:30 WITA the following day. Doctors there determined the venom’s effects were localised, meaning it had not spread systemically, and recommended observation and standard treatment. As no surgeon was available, the patient was transferred to Leona Hospital in Kefamenanu, where Dr Icha was on duty on Sunday, 14 June 2026. Before treating the patient, Dr Icha coordinated with the doctor on duty at the regional hospital and consulted a toxicology expert in Jakarta. Both confirmed the bite was in a local phase, requiring only observation and standard care rather than anti-venom serum. Dr Icha subsequently administered an intravenous line, provided pain relief medication, and applied a cast to the affected leg to prevent venom spread through movement. The patient has since recovered.
