Pasuruan City Surrounded by Floods, 100 Families Affected
At least 100 households in Pasuruan City, East Java, have been affected by flooding due to the overflow of the Welang River following heavy rain. The Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Centre for Disasters at BNPB, Abdul Muhari, confirmed that the flooding, which occurred after intense rain on Tuesday evening (21/4), inundated residential areas and road access in seven neighbourhoods. “Temporarily, at least 100 houses were submerged,” he said, quoting Antara on Thursday (23/4). The affected areas include Karangketug Neighbourhood in Gadingrejo Subdistrict, then Petamanan, Kebonsari, and Kandang Sapi Neighbourhoods in Panggungrejo Subdistrict, as well as Wirogunan, Puturejo, and Purworejo Neighbourhoods in Purworejo Subdistrict. “Field personnel are also conducting periodic monitoring of flood depths and distributing logistics to affected residents. On Wednesday (22/4), the weather was observed to be light rain and the flood had receded,” said Abdul Muhari. He added that personnel from the East Java Provincial BPBD, along with the Pasuruan City BPBD, have been deployed to the location to conduct rapid assessments and coordinate with local village apparatus. East Java is currently under a wet hydrometeorological disaster emergency alert status in accordance with the East Java Governor’s Decision Number 100.3.3.1/845/013/2025, which remains active until 1 May 2026. Thus, according to him, handling of survivors should be carried out maximally and is expected to support mitigation efforts against potential subsequent floods, given that the weather conditions in the area are still experiencing light-intensity rain.
