Jakarta – The Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (Satgas PASTI) has ceased the business activities of Universal Peak and BAFI Group Indonesia after discovering indications of licensing violations and activities potentially harmful to the public. The move was taken as part of consumer protection efforts against illegal investment practices and online loan settlement services that do not hold permits from the relevant authorities. In an official statement on Wednesday (17/6/2026), Satgas PASTI revealed that Universal Peak is suspected of running stock investment activities and initial public offering (IPO) share offerings with a scheme requiring members to deposit funds to obtain profits. Universal Peak claimed to be part of Universal Peak Investment Inc., an entity said to be licensed in Colorado, United States. However, following clarification and verification, the company was found not to hold a licence from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to conduct investment activities in Indonesia. Furthermore, Universal Peak was also running business activities not in accordance with the licence issued by the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM. The task force also found that the application and website used by the company were not registered as an Electronic System Operator (PSE) with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs. Moreover, Satgas PASTI suspects Universal Peak of providing fictitious and random IPO share purchase allocations to its members as part of the investment modus operandi. On the other hand, BAFI Group Indonesia offered consultation and settlement services for online loan problems. In practice, the company is suspected of directing consumers to apply for new loans on other platforms using the victims’ personal data. Once the loan was disbursed, victims were directed to default first. Subsequently, BAFI Group Indonesia promised to help settle all online loan debts in exchange for a service fee taken from a portion of the loan funds received by the victims.
