REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Directorate General of Immigration provided passport services at the Car Free Day event in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Sunday (17 May 2026). This activity is part of a strategy to improve access to services for citizens who find it difficult to apply for passports during working days.

Director of Visas and Travel Documents at the Directorate General of Immigration, Eko Budianto, explained that there is high demand for passport applications, while application times are often limited by people’s busy schedules from Monday to Friday.

“Today we are providing passport services at the Car Free Day event. This is part of improving service quality for the public,” he said.

He added that passport services on weekends are expected to be implemented more widely, not only in Jakarta but also in other regions.

During this implementation, around 30 people were served using two methods: 20 through the M-Passport application and 10 walk-in applications. The service was limited until 10:00 AM, adjusted to the Car Free Day schedule. The initial strategy is focused on Jakarta, with immigration offices taking turns providing services each week.

A couple from Bekasi, Bimo and Dita, used this mobile service to renew their passports. “It’s good because we don’t have to adjust to work schedules on Fridays or Sundays. It’s more flexible and can be an option. We can also bring the family along for a walk,” said Bimo.

This activity shows immigration’s efforts to expand access to public services by utilising community activities at Car Free Day events. “Yes, it’s quite relaxed. The atmosphere is good, so it’s not stressful. From arrival to completion, it was very quick,” added Dita.
