Passing Health Tests, Hundreds of Premium Livestock from Australia Undergo Strict Quarantine
Hundreds of superior livestock from Australia that arrived at Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Monday (30/3) are confirmed safe from disease risks. The animals are now undergoing quarantine in Tandes, Surabaya, before being distributed to their destinations.
Animal health authorities emphasise that all animals imported by PT Tombak Mas Nusantara are in healthy condition after passing a series of strict examinations and quarantine procedures.
Analis Wisnu Wardhana, a lecturer from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Brawijaya University, assures that all imported livestock commodities meet international health standards. This emphasis is given to ensure no threat of contagious animal diseases enters Indonesian territory.
“The animals imported from Australia are all healthy. They have all undergone strict examinations and must undergo quarantine processes in accordance with regulations,” stressed Drh Analis on Sunday (5/4).
As a crucial step in safeguarding national biosecurity, all livestock are not immediately distributed but must undergo a mandatory isolation period. Quarantine is carried out for 14 days at the official facility in Tandes, Surabaya.
During the quarantine period, the animals are intensively monitored to ensure their adaptation and clinical condition remain stable before being released to local farmers.
“We immediately send the livestock to the quarantine facility in Tandes to undergo the process in accordance with applicable provisions,” explained Aji Bagus Setiyawan, Director of PT Tombak Mas Nusantara.
The import of hundreds of animals on 30 March brings the best genetic varieties projected to strengthen food security and the tourism sector. The details of the livestock consist of 145 sheep, including superior breeds Texel, Suffolk, and Dorper to increase local farmers’ productivity.
In addition, there are 35 camels (Camelus dromedarius) allocated specifically for developing the eco-tourism industry in various regions of Indonesia. Furthermore, superior dairy cow breeds to strengthen the national food sector.
Through guarantees of prime health conditions and disciplined quarantine procedures, PT Tombak Mas Nusantara is optimistic that the presence of this livestock will become a catalyst for improving national seed quality. It also opens new economic opportunities in farm-based eco-tourism.
