Passengers Share Their First Fast-Breaking Experiences on the KRL Commuter Train
The moment of breaking the fast is usually associated with gathering with family at home. However, for those working hard to earn a living, the time for the Maghrib prayer often arrives while they are still on their way.
One of them is Ina (22), a passenger on the KRL route from Pondok Cina to Manggarai. She admitted that this was her first experience breaking her fast inside a train carriage.
“This is also my first time breaking my fast on a train. It’s only today,” said Ina, who was interviewed during her journey to Manggarai Station on Wednesday (25/2/2026).
This time, Ina prepared sweet potatoes and iced tea as her fast-breaking meal. According to her, both of these items are practical to eat on the go.
“When using public transportation, you can’t eat carelessly, so you have to eat quickly and choose something practical,” she said.
Unlike Ina, another KRL passenger, Silvi (22), is already ‘used to’ the experience of breaking her fast at the station. Having worked for three years on the Cikini-Kalideres route, she has become accustomed to stopping at Manggarai Station or Duri Station to break her fast.
“Rather than just drinking on the train, it’s better to sit down first because I’m hungry,” said Silvi while enjoying her iftar meal.
Silvi said that today she brought a fairly complete ‘supply’. In addition to iftar rice vermicelli and rice cakes, she also took the time to buy fried snacks and kebabs at the station before continuing her journey.
“I stopped by to buy fried snacks, then bought kebabs at the station before going to Manggarai. So I don’t get weak on the way,” she said.
Even though she has to break her fast away from her parents, Silvi admits that she still enjoys it. For her, the most important thing is to maintain her energy levels so that she remains strong enough to navigate the traffic in Jakarta until she arrives home.
