Passengers Return to Soekarno-Hatta Airport Following Reopening

Passengers at Soekarno-Hatta (Soetta) International Airport have begun returning in numbers following a two-day closure caused by the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

Observations showed that the check-in counters at Terminal 1B of Soetta Airport were once again crowded with passengers preparing to fly to various destinations.

One passenger, 18-year-old Yuga Nugraha, said he was departing for Padang to continue his education.

“I’m on the 09:00 Western Indonesia Time flight to Padang to pursue my studies,” said Yuga whilst queuing.

Yuga expressed relief that flight operations had resumed after the two-day closure, as he was among the passengers affected by the disruption.

“My flight was postponed. Originally my flight was scheduled for Sunday, but it has been rescheduled to today,” he said.

Another passenger, a married couple, experienced a similar ordeal after their flights were rescheduled for two days. The wife, Elfira, said she felt overwhelmed during the closure of Soetta Airport after waiting more than six hours.

“It was packed on Sunday. I felt dizzy waiting for more than six hours, so in the end I decided to just go home,” she said.

Fortunately, the volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau began to subside, allowing Elfira to finally travel to her hometown of Padang with her husband.

“I’m so happy that I can finally go home,” she said.

The passengers hope that flight operations at Soetta Airport can now run normally and smoothly.

Earlier, at 01:30, the management of Soetta Airport announced through its official channels that flight operations had resumed.
