Passengers evacuated from damaged vessel in Karang Beras waters
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Subdistrict Office and the Thousand Islands evacuated 13 passengers from the KM Cahaya Pesona, a vessel that sustained damage in the waters off Karang Beras Island, Pulau Panggang Village, North Thousand Islands District on Sunday.
“We evacuated 13 passengers from the vessel KM Cahaya Pesona, captained by a man named Edo (47), which had suffered damage,” said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations for the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Subdistrict Office, in Jakarta.
He stated that the office received information of the vessel incident at 11:38 Western Indonesia Time. The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Subdistrict Office deployed six personnel with one Blue Satria rescue vessel.
Personnel arrived at the location at 11:50 WIB and immediately began the evacuation. “All passengers were successfully evacuated by 13:15 WIB,” he said.
He explained that the evacuation became necessary due to a malfunction in the gearbox system, which damaged the main engine and prevented the vessel from operating normally. To prevent further serious damage and ensure operational safety, the vessel was evacuated to a safe location for further inspection and repair.
He stated that all passengers and crew members were successfully evacuated safely in accordance with applicable safety procedures. “All those aboard are in safe condition with no injuries. The situation is now under control and has been safely handled by the fire and rescue team,” he said.
