Passengers Endure Exhausting Evening on Tangerang Commuter Line
JAKARTA – The KRL Commuter Line service between Duri and Tangerang experienced operational disruptions on Tuesday (26 May 2026) afternoon into the evening.
The disruption caused several train delays, leading to passenger congestion at multiple stations, particularly during rush hour.
The issue occurred with KRL train number 1978A on the route between Taman Kota and Bojong Indah stations.
KAI Commuter’s Public Relations Manager, Leza Arlan, stated the problem was due to a technical fault in one of the train sets.
“After receiving the report, relevant staff immediately coordinated and handled the situation on-site to ensure travel safety and expedite the normalisation of Commuter Line operations,” Arlan said in a written statement on Tuesday.
The disruption led to a temporary power outage on the overhead line (LAA) between Duri and Rawabuaya, halting train movements.
KAI Commuter resolved the issue, restoring power at approximately 5:56 PM WIB.
The affected train was then towed by another train to Track 3 at Rawabuaya Station for further inspection.
During the handling process, several Tangerang-bound KRL services had schedule and operational changes.
For the upstream direction, affected services included KA 898A, 1980A, 1982A, and 902A. For the downstream direction, affected services were KA 1983A, 895A, and 899A.
Duri Station was heavily crowded with passengers until late evening.
Many passengers had to wait longer than usual as trains did not arrive on schedule.
One passenger, Ikhsan (32), said he had been waiting for about an hour and a half after transferring from Manggarai Station.
He chose to sit inside the station as the platform was too crowded.
“I’m tired, so I decided to sit down and wait until it’s quieter,” Ikhsan told Kompas.com at the scene on Tuesday evening.
