All passengers whose departures were delayed due to the eruption of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra have now been departed.

PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, at the Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport branch in Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar, stated that passengers on flights bound for Kualanamu, North Sumatra, which were delayed due to the Mount Sinabung eruption, were able to depart again on Tuesday at 15:59 WIB.

“Alhamdulillah, all passengers who were delayed due to the eruption of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra have been departed again,” said the General Manager of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Rahmat Adil Indrawan, in Blang Bintang, Aceh, on Tuesday.

He explained that while waiting for the flight schedules to resume, passengers in the Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport waiting lounge were provided with lunch by the airlines.

He noted that the delay was not intentional but was due to natural factors that could jeopardise the safety of passengers and flights.

Previously, two flights on the Banda Aceh-Medan route and vice versa were affected by the Mount Sinabung eruption on Tuesday.

Rahmat Adil Indrawan stated that of the two affected flights, one flight from Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport to Medan experienced a delay, while one flight from Medan to SIM Airport was cancelled.

He explained that the cancellation and delay of flights were part of the primary measures to maintain the safety of both passengers and aircraft crew due to the dispersal of volcanic ash from the Mount Sinabung eruption.

The airline flight experiencing a delay from Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport to Medan was Wings Air IW 1213 BTJ KNO, with a scheduled time of 06:45 WIB, while Super Air Jet IU 996 KNO-BTJ, scheduled for 10:10 WIB, was cancelled.

“For members of the public travelling through Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport to Medan, it is advised to monitor flight schedules and coordinate with the airlines to ensure departure timings,” he said.

The management of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero) at Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport continues to work in synergy with all airport stakeholders to provide dedicated service, prioritising safety and security for all airport users.
