Jakarta — Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal in East Jakarta is becoming increasingly crowded with prospective passengers preparing for their homecoming journey ahead of Lebaran 2026.

An observation by Kompas.com at the location on Monday 16 March 2026 at approximately 10:00 WIB showed passengers continuing to arrive and enter the terminal’s waiting area.

A number of porters wearing orange uniforms were seen carrying cardboard boxes and luggage belonging to passengers. Various items such as suitcases, boxes, and bags were visible stacked beside the seating areas.

Around the terminal area, several traders were also observed offering their goods to passengers waiting for their departures. Additionally, within the terminal there was a stall distributing free books provided by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia. Several passengers were seen approaching the stall to collect the complimentary books.

Revi Zulkarnaen, head of Kampung Rambutan Terminal, stated that passenger numbers have indeed begun increasing significantly in recent days ahead of the peak exodus period.

“Today is H-5 for Lebaran 2026 transport. Indeed, starting from H-7 yesterday, there has already been a very significant increase in passenger numbers,” he said when met by Kompas.com at the location on Monday.

According to Revi, the passenger surge is particularly occurring on popular routes towards Central Java, East Java, and Sumatra regions.

Revi added that the passenger numbers at this year’s peak exodus period are estimated to increase compared to the previous year.

During last year’s Lebaran, the peak exodus occurred at H-3 with passenger numbers reaching 3,224 people.

“During last year the peak occurred at H-3 with 3,224 people. This year it is likely to occur at H-4 or H-3, and at that time it could possibly reach 5,000 to 6,000 people on that day,” said Revi.
