JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Passengers on trains affected by a landslide on the Maswati-Sasaksaat route in West Bandung Regency were redirected to buses and the Whoosh high-speed train on Wednesday (1/4/2026). The redirection was implemented for passengers on several trains that experienced delays due to the incident. Manager of Public Relations for KAI’s Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, stated that two trains were delayed and thus redirected to alternative modes of transport. Meanwhile, passengers on train KA Papandayan number 129 from Garut to Gambir, who were held at Padalarang Station, were redirected using the Whoosh high-speed train to continue their journey to Jakarta. “KAI is providing Service Recovery (SR) to affected customers in the form of mineral water, light snacks, or full meals in accordance with applicable regulations,” Franoto said when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday. In addition to transport redirection, KAI has opened options for ticket cancellations for passengers who do not wish to continue their journey. Passengers can cancel tickets via the Access by KAI application or at station counters. “We are also ensuring that customers continue to receive the best service even in disruptive conditions,” he added. It is known that KA 174 Ciremai derailed after the train’s locomotive collided with landslide material blocking the tracks on Wednesday afternoon. “Yes, there was a derailment. The locomotive hit the landslide material that happened to be covering the rails, causing the derailment,” said Chiko (27), a witness and local resident, when contacted. Several moments before the incident, the Cikalongwetan and Cipatat areas experienced heavy rain, leading to landslides at several points. “One of them was a landslide at the railway crossing. The material covered the rails, and shortly after, the train entered and hit the landslide,” Chiko explained. The KA Ciremai that derailed was a trainset travelling from Purwakarta to Bandung. “The landslide point was a few metres from the tunnel. So, it was just a few metres before the train entered the Sasaksaat tunnel,” Chiko stated. Meanwhile, Vice President of Corporate Communication for PT KAI, Anne Purba, assured that all passengers on the KA Ciremai were safe. “All customers are in safe condition. There are no fatalities or injuries in this incident. Our officers immediately carried out handling at the site to ensure safety is maintained,” Anne said in an official statement received by Kompas.com.
