Passenger recounts Duri-Tangerang commuter line disruption with sudden stoppage and power failure
TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com — Passenger Muslim (31) recounted the moments when the Duri-Tangerang Commuter Line suddenly halted mid-journey on Tuesday (26 May 2026) afternoon. Muslim said the train stopped abruptly without prior warning. “There was no explosion or short circuit. The commuter train suddenly stopped, and the lights and air conditioning went off,” he told KOMPAS.com on Tuesday. The situation caused some passengers to disembark due to the dark and stuffy conditions inside the carriages. “Some passengers got off out of panic,” he added. The faulty train was later evacuated by being pushed by another train from behind towards Bojong Indah Station. Muslim explained that the affected consist comprised 10 carriages, pushed by another 10-carriage train, totalling 20 carriages. After being stranded for a considerable time, the train eventually arrived at Bojong Indah Station around 7:00 PM WIB. It is known that the Duri-Tangerang Commuter Line service was disrupted and suddenly stopped between Duri and Rawabuaya stations on Tuesday at 5:05 PM WIB. KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan stated the incident was caused by a facility malfunction on train number 1978A operating on the Duri-Tangerang route between Duri and Rawabuaya stations. “Upon receiving the report, relevant personnel immediately coordinated and handled the situation on-site to ensure travel safety and expedite the restoration of normal Commuter Line operations,” Leza said in a written statement on Tuesday. The overhead power supply (LAA) was temporarily shut down, rendering the Duri-Rawabuaya section temporarily unusable. However, efforts were made to restore the LAA, which resumed operation at 5:56 PM WIB.
