Passenger movements at Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport, Aceh, ease during Ramadan
PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, Kantor Cabang Bandara Internasional Sultan Iskandar Muda Blang Bintang di Aceh Besar, said passenger movements at the airport have eased during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH.
During Ramadan, passenger flow in Aceh declined as the intensity of visits by out-of-region travellers, including foreign tourists, to the area waned, said Setiyo Pramono, General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, Kantor Cabang Bandara Internasional Sultan Iskandar Muda, Blang Bintang, on Wednesday.
He noted that the current average number of air travellers using air transport services is around 1,400 to 1,600 passengers per day, compared with the usual 2,300 to 2,500 per day.
He also said that the decline is linked to residents of the province, which has a population of about five million, using Ramadan to increase religious observance.
According to him, during Ramadan there are also international tourists, particularly from Malaysia, who visit Aceh to enjoy Ramadan firsthand in the ‘Serambi Mekah’.
He said that passenger surges at Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport in Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar, occurred before Ramadan and also after Eid al-Fitr.
He added that operations at the Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport during the holy month of Ramadan ran normally, and the airport distributed free takjil to departing passengers before sunset and to those landing as the Maghrib call to prayer sounded.
“This is also part of our commitment to providing a comfortable and memorable travel experience for all passengers in the airport area,” he said.
