Passenger Movement Rises, Manggarai Station Set for Development
State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, views Manggarai Station as playing a strategic role in the development of Jakarta’s public transport system. Currently, activity at Manggarai Station reaches approximately 162,000 customer movements per day, with around 700 to 750 train journeys daily. “The scale of this mobility serves as an important basis for strengthening connectivity and the future arrangement of the Manggarai area,” said KAI Vice President Corporate Communication Anne Purba in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday (10/8/2026). Anne stated that the high level of public movement makes Manggarai more than just a transit location. The area has the potential to develop as a meeting point for increasingly connected public transport services. “Manggarai holds a very strategic position in the journeys of Jakarta’s residents and the agglomeration area. The future focus is on how transfers between services can become easier, journeys more efficient, and access to the areas around the station increasingly better,” Anne said. She noted that KAI data recorded the number of KRL Commuter Line customers tapping in at Manggarai Station reached 5,142,739 in 2023. This figure rose to 5,575,711 in 2024, and stood at 5,456,309 in 2025. Throughout January to June 2026, the number has reached 2,716,932 customers. “These figures demonstrate the large scale of travel activity centred on Manggarai from year to year,” Anne said. She added that Manggarai’s role has also expanded with the presence of the Airport Commuter Line service. Overall, the train served 1,970,531 customers in 2023, rising to 2,242,536 in 2024, then reaching 2,346,934 in 2025. Specifically at Manggarai Station, 230,314 customers boarded the Airport Commuter Line from January to June 2026.
