Passenger Allegedly Uses Roadside Flower Request to Steal Ojol Rider's Motorcycle in Depok

DEPOK, Kompas.com — An online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol) became a victim of motorbike theft in Sukatani, Tapos, Depok, after the passenger allegedly used a ruse of asking the driver to fetch flowers by the roadside.

The incident occurred on Dongkal Street, RT 04 RW 04, Sukatani Village, Tapos Subdistrict, on Tuesday (19 May 2026).

Cimanggis Police Precinct Chief, Comr. Jupriono, said that initially the victim was waiting for a passenger on Jalan Mekarsari, Cimanggis. Shortly thereafter, the suspect alighted from a public transport minivan and approached the victim, asking to be delivered without using the app. “Approached the victim and asked if he could escort the suspect without using the app, to which the victim agreed,” Jupriono said on Thursday (21 May 2026), cited from Tribunnews.

Upon arrival at the location, the suspect asked the victim to stop at a small shop. Not long after, someone believed to be the suspect’s accomplice approached. According to Jupriono, the accomplice then asked the victim to help fetch flowers by the roadside near a cemetery, claiming it was for medicine. “He showed the victim to pick some flowers by the roadside near the cemetery for medicine,” he said.

The victim was offered a wage of IDR 50,000 if he was willing to fetch the flowers. The victim only realised his vehicle was missing after the suspect fled the scene. The Cimanggis Police Precinct, having received the report, went to the crime scene and conducted investigations. Police also checked CCTV footage in the vicinity to identify the perpetrator. To date, police are still investigating the case, including pursuing the suspect who is suspected to have planned the act by deceiving the victim. This case adds to the list of crimes utilizing fake passengers targeting online motorcycle taxi drivers.
