Passarella to face fine

MONTEVIDEO (AFP): Uruguay's Argentine coach Daniel Passarella
faces a fine of some US$210,000, worth some three month's salary,
if he carries out his threat to resign, local paper El Pais
reported here on Friday.

Last month Passarella, who coached Argentina at France 98 and
who has been in charge of Uruguay less than a year, said he was
on the verge of resigning in frustration over the availability of
European-based players.

Passarella, who skippered Argentina to victory in the 1978
World Cup, originally agreed to see Uruguay through the 2002
qualifiers.

But on Wednesday he said he might quit as early as after the
April 26 qualifier against Paraguay.
