REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) plays a strategic role in supporting research activities in the national palm oil sector. Executive Director of the Palm Oil Agribusiness Strategic Policy Institute (Paspi), Tungkot Sipayung, assessed that BPDP’s commitment to supporting research in the palm oil sector is already evident in practice.

According to him, by 2025, BPDP has supported funding for around 400 research titles, covering various aspects from upstream to downstream of the palm oil industry. All research funded by BPDP encompasses a wide range of topics, starting from the development of new palm-based materials and biomass that generate high added value.

Tungkot mentioned that studies in plantation environments and certification reviews are conducted to realise sustainable palm oil and support the circular economy. “Research funded by BPDP ranges from upstream to downstream of the palm oil sector. From this perspective, BPDP’s commitment to supporting palm oil research is clearly evident,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

Tungkot hopes that BPDP can continue to optimise its support for research activities. This includes, he added, through the implementation of periodic comprehensive evaluations to obtain strategic input in improving the effectiveness of the agency’s role in the research field.
